APPLYING FOR A FISCAL NUMBER (N.I.E) IN SPAIN

Any foreigner intending on buying a property in Spain is required to have an NIE number and this should be processed in advance of the purchase.

The NIE number is also required to make other transactions in Spain, for example opening a bank account, buying a car, paying taxes.

An NIE number will be indicated on a residence permit and this identifies a person to the Spanish Authorities.
